This episode of Doctor Who features as part of the Motorways season currently running on BBC4. A brief overview: The Doctor and Martha travel to New Earth far in the future. To discover the secret at the heart of the metropolis they must brave the motorway. Rumours that this episode was shot entirely at Charing Cross as the Good Doctor and Martha try to make their way by foot from Woodlands Road to the top of Sauchiehall Street are completely unfounded.
Somewhat a little off the pace, I’ve just got round to uploading the opening pictures (below) from the exhibition which was at the Lighthouse, opening on 17th May 2007 and concluding mid June.

We flagged this up earlier but just a quick reminder of the following:
Glasgow city council are currently consulting on their ‘Core Paths’ – To view the online Core Path Plan visit
http://www.glasgow.gov.uk/en/Residents/GettingAround/CorePathPlan
If you wish to receive a paper copy of the plan please email* **CorePaths@glasgow.gov.uk*
with your name and address and the council will send you a copy.
The consultation is in itself a pretty difficult thing to comment on without a lot of work and reviewing of the current plans, so a good initiative but not particularly accessible unless you have several spare hours – there are however some public meetings to discuss the plans and details of those can be found here.
This programme starts on tuesday night on BBC4 and may be of interest. Will it reflect on Glasgow’s urban motorways, and what will it conclude for the future of motorway building?

This article highlights a nice (and seemingly well thought through) scheme in Barcelona, though admitedly it’s not as wet there. Alans bike umbrella idea may yet come into it’s own…
This report follows up on Glasgow 2020 and the Power of Mass Imagination, a report by DEMOS.
Also of interest is the extensive too-ing and fro-ing in the comment section, (mindless mudslinging aside). This is echoed in other blogs and news sites regarding issues of ‘the city’ and we were wondering about ways of chanelling this interest and appetite for discussion. Any thoughts welcome…
