This report from the Victoria Transport Policy Institute in Canada makes interesting reading and is as smart a dissection of ‘the way forward is lower emission vehicles’ argument as we’ve come across.

This article highlights an enlightened plan from the always forward-thinking Glasgow City Council to remove goths and emo (emo’s? emi? what’s the plural?) from Royal Exchange square in the name of ‘economic prosperity’. Issues for discussion: Council screening and dictating who can stay where within the city centre, the primary focus of the city centre being retail and retail alone, tolerance of diversity in the supposedly ‘welcoming city’ (2014 games bid etc etc)…

This great post on DesignNotes by Michael Surtees looks at a wiki asking how and why people would rebuild their cities.

The latest ratcheting of promises and pledges before the Commonwealth Games 2014 have seen the announcement that the games will be car free. Bizarre then, that in the same breath the utterly ‘essential’ nature of the new M74 motorway extension is again reiterated. Perhaps it is essential to carry all the electric buses on?

Not sure where you’d find the ‘existing very high quality cycling provision at Glasgow Central’ which the report mentions, or whether this scheme is the ‘panacea for all ills’ it seems to be described as. But good intentions and a good idea in itself.
